Clark Atlanta Drops Season Opener To Shorter

ROME, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University volleyball team showed moments of grit and competitive energy Tuesday evening but ultimately fell 3–0 (17–25, 21–25, 13–25) on the road to Shorter University.

The Lady Panthers came out strong in the opening set, tallying nine kills on 28 attempts, highlighted by two service aces and a block at the net. Despite the effort, Shorter's efficiency proved difficult to slow down as the hosts took the first set 25–17.
 
Clark Atlanta responded in the second set with their most complete stretch of the night. The Panthers recorded seven kills and limited errors to stay within striking distance. A strong serving run that included three aces and two blocks gave CAU momentum, but Shorter's offense ultimately pushed ahead late to secure the set 25–21.
 
In the final frame, Clark Atlanta continued to fight, adding eight kills and two service errors forced from the Hawks. However, Shorter's six aces in the set proved decisive as the Panthers dropped the third 25–13.
 
Overall, Clark Atlanta finished with 24 kills, led the match in service aces through the first two sets, and held their own at the net with three total blocks.
 
The Lady Panthers will look to regroup quickly as they continue their road stretch on Friday, September 12 as they go against Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.
