Panthers Fight Off Late Thorobred Surge to Advance to the SIAC Championship Tournament Semifinal

Clark Atlanta Advances to semifinal to face winner of Albany State and Tuskegee

ATLANTA – The Clark Atlanta men's basketball team fought off a late surge from Kentucky State to secure a 77-72 victory Wednesday night at Forbes Arena. The Panthers (19-9, 15-5 SIAC) will advance to play the winner of No. 3E Albany State and 2W Tuskegee on Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m.

Shemani Fuller anchored Clark Atlanta with a double-double, posting 22 points and 16 rebounds while controlling the interior on both ends. Martez Jones added 23 points on an efficient 9-of-11 shooting, helping the Panthers maintain their lead in the second half.

The game saw multiple lead changes early, with Clark Atlanta jumping out to an early 6-0 start behind a dunk from Fuller and a layup from Roderick Jones. Kentucky State responded with hot perimeter shooting, led by Lavar Miller Jr., who knocked down eight three-pointers and finished with 29 points.

Clark Atlanta held a slim 41-40 lead at halftime, thanks to key contributions off the bench and aggressive second-chance opportunities. The Panthers dominated the paint, outscoring Kentucky State 44-16 inside while also holding a 39-32 rebounding advantage.

In the second half, Clark Atlanta extended its lead behind timely baskets from Jalen Williams, who finished with 16 points, and O'zhell Jackson, whose defensive presence included three blocked shots and 10 rebounds. Kentucky State kept it close with late-game three-pointers, but Fuller's clutch free throws and a critical dunk in the final minute sealed the win for the Panthers.
