Baseball Secures Series Win over Rival Morehouse College

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta Panthers' baseball team picked a crucial series win over cross-campus rival Morehouse College this weekend. Clark Atlanta won game one 10-4, game two 11-10, and fell short in game three 17-7. With the wins, Clark Atlanta improves to 11-13 with a 7-11 mark in conference play. 

GAME ONE

The Panthers started the series with a commanding 10-4 win over Morehouse in game one. Clark Atlanta fell behind 2-0 before Jason Jones grounded into fielders choice to score a run for Sean Stewart followed by a timely double from Tucker Love to bring Jones home and tie the score at two apiece in the top of the third inning. 

The Maroon Tigers held a 3-2 lead going into the fifth frame until Tucker Love notched his second double of the day to tie the game at three runs apiece. The Panthers piled on two more runs to secure their first lead of the day (5-3) going into the bottom of the fifth inning. 

Clark Atlanta netted runs in each of the remaining innings to outscore Morehouse 5-1 and secure the 10-4 victory. 

Sean Stewart led the charge for Clark Atlanta going 3-for-6 at bat with three RBIs and three stolen bags on the day. Jason Jones and Tucker Love each belted a pair of hits followed by Terry Cruz, Andrew Garner, Dorian Andrews, and Dylan Diaz with a hit apiece. Jones and Diaz also led the Panthers in runs with three each. 

Asa Waites picked up the win on the mound with five strikeouts, four earned runs, and 10 hits allowed in nine innings pitched. 

GAME TWO

A huge five-run sixth inning powered the Panthers past Morehouse in game two of the series. Clark Atlanta jumped in front 6-3 going into the fifth frame when the Maroon Tigers responded with seven runs including a pair of home runs to take a 10-6 lead. 

Clark battled back with five runs in the sixth led by runs from Andrew Leonard and a timely hit from Andrew Garner to score Sean Stewart and Jason Jones. Tucker Love and Garner each scored runs to close out the inning with an 11-10 lead over the Maroon Tigers. 

Dylan Scott allowed zero hits in the remaining inning and a half to secure the win on the mound and give his Panthers a 2-0 series lead. 

GAME THREE

Clark Atlanta fell short in game three 17-7. Despite the loss, Tucker Love registered his third home run of the season in a 2-for-3 at-bat performance with two runs and three RBIs. Andrew Leonard also went 2-for-4 on the day followed by Terry Cruz with two runs. 

UP NEXT

Clark Atlanta returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 25 as they head to Sumter, South Carolina to take on Morris College in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
