Martin's Game-High 28 Points Propels the Panthers to the Semifinals

Clark Atlanta Advances to semifinal to face winner of Benedict and Tuskegee

SAVANNAH, Ga. – After facing a deficit for the majority of the contest, Andrew Stewart tossed in a floater with six seconds to propel the Panthers (23-5, 16-5 SIAC) past Savannah State 54-53 in a nail-biter on Thursday afternoon inside Tiger Arena. Despite fouling out, Chris Martin led all scorers with a game-high 28 points. 

The first half was all Savannah State as Clark Atlanta faced a 34-21 deficit going into halftime. The Panthers shot 37% from the field in the first half compared to Savannah State's 46.4%. 

Chris Martin opened the second half with 14 points in the first five minutes to push Clark Atlanta to a 40-36 lead over Savannah State at the 15:04 mark in the second half. Savannah State battled back to take a five-point lead with nine minutes left to play. 

With just under four minutes left to play, Andrew Stewart laid in a fastbreak layup to put CAU back in front 52-51. Savannah State took a 53-52 lead with 2:54 left to play but as each team remained scoreless in the final two minutes, Andrew Stewart tossed up a floater with six seconds left to power the Panthers past the Tigers by a one-point margin (54-53) on their home floor to advance to play the winner of Tuskegee and Benedict at 3 p.m. on Saturday inside Tiger Arena.
