Baseball Splits Weekend Contests Against Tuskegee

Newman picks up first win of the season on the mound

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Pitcher Isaiah Newman opened this weekend's series with a full-game pitched and an 11-4 win over the Tigers of Tuskegee. The Panthers dropped the second game of the series to split the conference matchups as game three was canceled due to inclement weather.

GAME ONE

Isaiah Newman pitched a lights out contest on Saturday after pitching nine innings, striking out three batters, and only allowing two earned runs to down Tuskegee 11-4 in the opening game. 

Kentavious Veal led the Panthers in hits and runs on the day, notching three hits and four runs on the day. Mario Cuevas had a team-high five RBIs with two runs and two hits to add. Gabriel Williams logged two runs and one hit in the designated hitter spot while Dorian Andrews registered two hits of his own. Williams also sent the game's only home run over the left field fence in the top of the fifth. 

GAME TWO

The Panthers dropped Sunday's contest by a narrow 9-8 margin to Tuskegee in 10 innings. Tuskegee scored on a walk-off single to take the win. 

Mario Cuevas led Clark Atlanta in hits with a team-high three while also striking out five on the mound. Jason Jones netted his first home run of the season to put the Panthers in the lead 8-7 in the top of the 9th inning. 

UP NEXT

Clark Atlanta returns to action on Saturday, March 9 at Savannah State University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Tiger Baseball Field.
