Andrew Stewart Sinks Go-Ahead Three, Panthers Down Edward Waters

Panthers with 13th straight to improve to 20-3

ATLANTA, Ga. -- In a miraculous turn of events, after facing a deficit for a majority of the game, Andrew Stewart knocked down a go-ahead three-pointer with three seconds left to power the Panthers past Edward Waters 84-82 on Monday evening inside  Epps Gymnasium. With the win, Clark Atlanta improves to 20-3 while also extending their win streak to 13 games to remain undefeated in the 2024 calendar year.

The Panthers placed five in double figures led by Andrew Stewart with 18 points to pace Clark Atlanta. Chris Martin assisted on the game-winning basket to add to his 17-point, 5-assist performance. Xavier Griffith added 12 points while Jalen Williams chipped in 10 of his own. Kharye Cayne dominated the paint with a season-high 7 blocks, 13 rebounds, and 11 points.

The first half didn't go so well for the Panthers after only holding the lead in the first two minutes. Edward Waters shot an efficient 61.5% (8-of-13) from three-point range in the first half to hold a 10-point lead (49-39) over Clark Atlanta going into the intermission.

The Tigers held momentum for a majority of the second half as well after their lead swelled to as much as 13 points (71-58) with just over 10 minutes left to play in regulation. The Panthers began to chip away at the Tigers' lead after a Chris Martin steal and made fastbreak layup followed by an and-one with a made free throw to bring CAU within one (81-80) at the 1:21 mark in the first half.

Edward Waters responded with a made free throw to hold a two-point lead with under a minute to play. At 17 seconds left, Coach Jordan called a timeout to draw up the final play for his Panthers. Chris Martin inbounded to ball to Jalen NeSmith who gave it back to Martin. Martin took a drive down the right side before getting caught in traffic by a few EWU defenders. Undeterred, the Charlotte native used his vision to find Andrew Stewart on the left wing to knock down the game-winning jumper with 3.2 seconds left on the clock.

Clark Atlanta won the rebounding battle 44-35 and scored nearly double the points in the paint (48-28). The Panthers reserves' also outscored 33-30 while also scoring more points off turnovers (15-9).

Clark Atlanta men's basketball looks to win their 13th straight on Thursday, February 15 as they head to Fairfield, Alabama to take on the Miles College Golden Bears. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. central time in Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
