Lady Panthers Softball Takes Down Talladega in Doubleheader Home Opener

Softball earns first wins of the season

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Clark Atlanta softball team picked up their first two wins of the season after taking down Talladega College in a doubleheader on Saturday morning at the Lady Panther Softball Field. Clark Atlanta won game one 2-0 before defeating the Tornadoes 6-2 to finish the day.

GAME ONE

The Lady Panthers scored on a sacrifice bunt from Maliyah Ward that brought Jazmin Scott in for the first run of the day in the bottom of the first. Freshman Kenedie Matthews fired off a triple to bring Myia Lambert in for a run, which put the Lady Panthers ahead 2-0 in the second frame.

Jayla Hill got the start and the win on the mound for Clark Atlanta.

GAME TWO

CAU finished what they started in game one by escaping with a 6-2 victory over the Tornadoes in game two of the day. Shemia Clady got the scoring surge started early for the Lady Panthers as her single through the left side brought Rasheedah Hasan and Jazmin Scott in for runs to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Coreya Quarterman kept it going for Clark with a single to right field to bring Johannas Bentley in for the Lady Panthers third run of the day. The Lady Tornadoes mustered up a home run at the top of the second frame to cut the deficit to just two runs (3-1).

Quarterman logged her second RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly to score Bentley and take a 4-1 advantage in the third inning. In the same inning, Andreya Hunter stole home plate to extend Clark Atlanta's lead to 5-1. Johannas Bentley ripped a single up the middle to score Hasan in the bottom of the fourth, giving CAU a 6-1 advantage. Talladega logged just one run in the seventh inning but the comeback effort was stifled as Clark Atlanta held on to win 6-2 to finish the day.
