Williams' Go-Ahead Layup Pushes Clark Atlanta Past Tuskegee in SIAC Opener

Clark Atlanta improves to 4-4 overall

TUSKEGEE, Ala.  Jalen Williams delivered a clutch layup in the final moments to lift Clark Atlanta to a dramatic 51-50 victory over Tuskegee in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday evening at James Center Arena.

Williams' decisive basket came with just under five seconds remaining, giving the Panthers (4-4, 1-0 SIAC) the lead for good. He finished with 10 points and three rebounds, showcasing poise under pressure in the game's critical moments.

Xavier Griffith also played a key role for Clark Atlanta, scoring 11 points, including 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, to help secure the victory. Dez'Mond Perkins led the Panthers in scoring with 13 points and added six rebounds.

Tuskegee (3-5, 2-2 SIAC) fought valiantly, led by Kusamae Draper's 13 points and five rebounds. Kevin Sesberry contributed 11 points, including a key three-pointer in the second half that briefly gave the Golden Tigers the lead.

The Panthers took a 25-24 advantage into halftime, using a balanced offensive effort and a defense that converted turnovers into 24 points. The game featured five lead changes and two ties, with both teams trading punches throughout the second half.

Clark Atlanta's defense proved pivotal down the stretch. The Panthers tallied eight steals, including two from Roderick Jones, to limit Tuskegee's opportunities in the closing minutes. Despite the Golden Tigers' 28-24 edge in points in the paint, they struggled at the free-throw line, hitting just 5-of-11 attempts.

Clark Atlanta shot 39.5% from the field compared to Tuskegee's 38.5%, but the Panthers' composure and Williams' late-game heroics made the difference.
