Lady Panthers Shine in 20-Point Win over ECSU in Home Opener

Women's basketball downs ECSU in Sunday matchup

ATLANTA, Ga. — Clark Atlanta University surged in the second half to secure a decisive 75-55 victory over Elizabeth City State University on Sunday at L.S. Epps Gym. The Panthers (2-1) leveraged their dominance in the paint and a strong defensive effort to overpower the Vikings (1-3).

Clark Atlanta trailed 16-9 after the first quarter but bounced back to tie the game at halftime, 25-25. A commanding 28-point third quarter gave the Panthers the separation they needed to seal the win. The Vikings struggled to keep pace, particularly with turnovers and second-chance opportunities.

Clark Atlanta's Corriana Evans posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, anchoring her team's effort on both ends of the court. Denise Stine added 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting, while Amberly Brown contributed 13 points and four rebounds in just 14 minutes off the bench.

Elizabeth City State was led by Vanessa Schwarzmann, who hit four 3-pointers en route to 13 points. Londen Coleman and Kayiona Willis each added 11 points for the Vikings, but their efforts were not enough to overcome their team's 25 turnovers.

The Panthers outscored the Vikings 46-18 in the paint and tallied 24 fast-break points to ECSU's 12. Clark Atlanta won the rebounding battle 46-36, including 27 offensive rebounds that led to 22 second-chance points. The Vikings were plagued by turnovers, leading to 21 points for the Panthers.

Despite the loss, Elizabeth City State's bench contributed 21 points, showcasing depth but falling short against Clark Atlanta's physicality and execution.

Clark Atlanta will look to extend its winning streak on Wednesday against Clayton State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside L.S. Epps Gymnasium
