Clark Atlanta Fights Hard Despite Setbacks in Loss to Miles in SIAC Championship Game

Panthers finish the season 7-3-1

FAIRFIELD, Ala. — Despite a valiant effort led by quarterback David Wright III and wide receiver Jamal Jones, Clark Atlanta fell short against Miles College, 53-25, on Saturday at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium in the 2024 SIAC Championship Game. The Panthers showcased moments of brilliance, but turnovers and a dominant Miles rushing attack proved too much to overcome.

Clark Atlanta's offense, guided by David Wright III, displayed resilience after an early deficit. Wright threw for an impressive 356 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair of spectacular connections with Jamal Jones, who racked up 163 yards and two scores on seven receptions. The Panthers' aerial attack consistently challenged the Miles secondary, producing explosive plays that kept them within striking distance.

Clark Atlanta's defense had standout moments, including a safety in the third quarter that gave the Panthers a glimmer of hope. Defensive back James Summersett led the team with 12 tackles, showing his ability to disrupt the Golden Bears' offense.

However, turnovers were the Achilles' heel for Clark Atlanta. Wright's four interceptions, paired with two lost fumbles, shifted momentum in favor of the Golden Bears. On the ground, the Panthers struggled to establish a consistent rushing attack, managing just 82 yards against Miles' tough front seven.

Miles College leaned on a punishing ground game, amassing 220 rushing yards and five touchdowns, while their defense forced three turnovers, including a 48-yard fumble return for a touchdown by William Hardy. Despite these setbacks, Clark Atlanta's resilience shone through, particularly during their 14-point second quarter, which briefly closed the gap.

Despite the loss, this was a historic season for the Panthers. Their 7-3-1 record is their best in recent history.
