Panthers Fall to Miles College on Homecoming

Armone Harris nets 113 receiving yards

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Clark Atlanta University Panthers faced off against a tough opponent, the Miles College Golden Bears for the 2024 homecoming game. In years past the Panthers have fought valiantly against the Golden Bears and this contest was no different. Clark Atlanta University began the game with an incredibly promising first drive.

The Panthers began at their 46-yard line where David Wright III began the offensive attack completing three short passes, two to Armone Harris and one to Jamal Jones advancing to the Golden Bears' 39-yard line. Following a successful rushing effort by Trayvon Pinder to reach the Bear's 35-yard line David Wright III completed several short passes and finally rushed the ball for 1 yard himself for a touchdown on the first drive. Kicker Leonardo Cabrera secured the field goal attempt putting the score at 7-0.

On Miles' first drive of the game the Panther's defense would not be denied. The Golden Bears were held to a few yards due to incomplete passing before they were forced to punt. However, the growing momentum began to change when the Panthers punt attempt, after a stalled drive, was blocked and resulted in a touchdown for Miles. The first quarter concluded with the score at 7-7. The Golden Bears then went on to score the only second-quarter touchdown as the Panthers fought to recover the momentum that had begun the game ending the first half with the score at 14-7.

Following halftime, Miles scored the first two touchdowns of the third quarter, intercepted a pass on the Panthers drive, and scored a third touchdown, extending their lead to 35-7. The Panthers sought to respond immediately and answered the interception with a touchdown pass of 38 yards by David Wright III to Armone Harris and a field goal by Leonardo Cabrera to bring the score to 35- 14 to end the third quarter.

The final quarter displayed an even offensive effort from both teams showcasing the determination of the Panthers to fight valiantly. The Panthers and the Golden Bears traded touchdowns on their respective drives resulting in a final score of 49-28.
