Jones Big Night Pushes Lady Panthers Past Albany State

Two Lady Panthers notch double-doubles

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Clark Atlanta women's basketball team (9-8, 6-6 SIAC) cruised past Albany State 63-54 on Monday night inside Epps Gymnasium. Trinity Jones led the scoring effort for Clark Atlanta with a game-high 18 points.

The Lady Panthers also logged two players with double-doubles as Atreonia Garner scored 16 points and pulled down 16 rebounds followed by Corianna Evans with 11 points and 11 rebounds. 

Corianna Evans scored seven of CAU's 15 first-quarter points to send the Lady Panthers into the second frame with a 15-11 advantage over the Golden Rams. Clark Atlanta continued to lay it on as they went into halftime with a 13-point lead (33-20) over ASU. 

The Lady Panthers shot 46.6% (7-for-15) from the field in the second quarter. 

Brooklyn McKinley and Denise Stine combined for four points to close out the third quarter and kept the Lady Panthers ahead by 12 (44-32) headed into the fourth quarter. Midway through the final frame, Trinity Jones knocked down a jumper to swell Clark Atlanta's lead to 21 points (58-37) with 4:02 left to play in regulation. 

Kiara Cole-Messiah sealed the deal with a made three-pointer to secure the wire-to-wire 63-54 victory for Clark Atlanta. The Lady Panthers outrebounded the Golden Rams 47-36, scored more points in the paint (28-20), and won the points off turnovers battle 20-17.

Clark Atlanta women's basketball returns to action on Wednesday, January 31 as they play host to the Fort Valley State Wildcats at 6 p.m. inside Epps Gymnasium.
