PREVIEW: Clark Atlanta Looks to Get Into the Win Column against Savannah State

Panthers head to Savannah for Conference Clash

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University football team (0-2) looks to get into the win column as they head to Savannah, Georgia to take on the Savannah State Tigers (1-1) in Saturday's (Sept. 16) conference clash at Theodore A. Wright Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
The Panthers seek to end a five-game losing streak that dates back to last season after starting the 2023 campaign 0-2 for the first time since 2019. Savannah State on the other hand sits at .500 with a 1-1 record heading into week three. Saturday's matchup will be the fourth meeting all time between the two programs dating back to 2008. Savannah State leads the series 3-1 but Clark Atlanta holds the last win between the two after taking down the Tigers 21-12 last season.
 
CLARK ATLANTA
 
As a team, Clark Atlanta has struggled to find the endzone this season. Junior running back Daquon Kincey (Abbeville, Ala.) has scored four of CAU's five touchdowns on the year followed by junior receiver Devion Newson (Decatur, Ga.) with one touchdown. The Panthers are averaging 18.5 points per game this season while allowing opponents an average of 37 points. 

The passing game has kept Clark Atlanta afloat this season as the Panthers have logged 19 of their 27 first downs through the air and registered an average of 189 passing yards per game.

Quarterback Heath Williams Jr. (Clarksville, Tenn.) leads the team in passing after logging back-to-back 100-yard games to start the season. The Tennessee State transfer has 294 yards on 21-for-32 completions and one touchdown for CAU this year. 

Despite Daquon Kincey finding the endzone twice in each of the first two contests, Clark Atlanta sits at just 93 total rushing yards for the season. 

Clark Atlanta averages 235.5 yards of total offense per game.

Defensively, the Panthers are led in solo tackles by junior defensive back Camron Ivey (Atlanta, Ga.) with seven solos and 12 total. 

SAVANNAH STATE

The Tigers average just under 15 points while allowing opponents 25.5 points per contest with only three offensive touchdowns on the year. 

As a team, Savannah State has just 317 passing yards with a 47.69 completion percentage in the first two contests. 

The defense is allowing just under 100 rushing yards (99.0) per game and 215 yards through the air.

LAST TIMEOUT

Clark Atlanta looks to bounce back after suffering a 40-17 loss at the hands of Fort Valley State this past Saturday (Sept. 9). Daquon Kincey led the offensive charge with two touchdowns on seven attempts rushing.
