CAU Volleyball Announces 2023 Fall Schedule

Volleyball Enters First Season Under Head Coach Joelle Mafo

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University Volleyball program has announced its fall 2023 schedule on Monday, July 10, with first serve slated for September 1 at the Erskine College Tournament.

Before the regular season kicks off, the Lady Panthers will travel to Brewton-Parker, Oglethorpe, and Huntingdon College for their respective preseason scrimmages.



Head Coach Joelle Mafo enters her first season at the helm of CAU volleyball. Mafo came to Clark Atlanta from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, where she served as head volleyball coach since July 2020.

Among the key returners are Shynique McGee and Sanaa Simmons who tied for most sets played last season (94). McGee garnered second-team all-conference honors at the end of last season while Simmons collected 190 digs on the defensive end for CAU Volleyball.

The 2023 slate kicks off on September 1-2 as the Lady Panthers head to Due West, S.C. for the Erskine College Tournament, with the two opponents to be decided at a later date. To continue the month of September, CAU will welcome Fort Valley State on September 6 at 6:00 p.m. to open conference play. After a six-day hiatus, the Lady Panthers will continue SIAC play as they play host to Albany State at L.S. Epps Gymnasium on September 12 at 6:00 p.m.

The Lady Panthers will take a trip down I-20 West to take on Talladega College on September 14 at 6:00 PM followed by the SIAC Crossover almost a week later on September 22-24. CAU returns to Epps Gymnasium on September 26 for a non-conference doubleheader against Georgia College & State University at 4:00 p.m. followed by another matchup against Talladega College at 6:00 p.m.

The month of September ends with the SIAC Tri-Match in Fort Valley, Georgia on September 30. The Lady Panthers will take on Kentucky State at 11:00 a.m. and Central State at 1:00 p.m in Fort Valley's HPE Basketball Arena.

The month of October starts with another conference matchup for CAU as they head to Albany State to face the Golden Rams on October 3 at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Panthers return home on October 6-7 to host the Pink Classic Tournament in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. CAU will face Harris-Stowe State on October 6 at 6:00 p.m. followed by a rematch the next day (Oct. 7) at 11:00 a.m. with matches against Allen (1:00 p.m.) and Benedict College (4:00 p.m.) on the same day.

The conference slate will continue for the next three matches as CAU heads down to Fort Valley State on October 11 for a 6:00 p.m. SIAC showdown. CAU Volleyball returns to Epps Gymnasium for back-to-back conference matches as they take on Savannah State on October 13 (6:00 p.m.) followed by a matchup with Edwards Waters on the following day (Oct. 14) at 1:00 p.m. In their second to last home game of the season, CAU will host Brewton-Parker College on October 17, with the first serve set for 6:00 p.m. inside Epps Gymnasium.

CAU will hit the road for three-straight matches to close out the month of October. The three-game road slate starts with a conference clash against Savannah State on October 27 (6 p.m.) at Tiger Arena followed by another Tiger matchup with Edward Waters on October 28 at 1 p.m. The Lady Panthers close out the three-game road slate with a contest against former SIAC member Paine College on October 31 (6 p.m.).

CAU returns home for Senior Night on November 2 against Paine College, with a 6:00 p.m. start time. CAU Volleyball will close out the regular season with conference matchups against Allen University (Nov. 4) at 11 a.m. and Benedict College at 4:00 p.m. the same day. 

The 2023 SIAC Tournament presented by Cricket Wireless will be held on November 10-12 with the location to be determined at a later date.
