Softball Sweeps Benedict to Close Out Regular Season

COLUMBIA, S.C. | In the final road test of the season, the Clark Atlanta University softball team swept the Benedict Tigers in their final three games of the regular season to improve to an 18-19 overall record. 

GAME 1

Clark Atlanta started the series off with a 6-5 victory over the Tigers. Benedict held an early 3-0 lead heading into the third frame. T'Maja Oges Moore put Clark Atlanta on the board in the third inning with a double to left field, scoring Sierra Lopez in the process. Johannas Bentley gave CAU a one-point lead in the third inning on a 3-RBI home run. The Lady Panthers tacked on two more runs to take game one with a 6-5 win.

GAME 2

The Lady Panthers secured game two with an 8-6 win over Benedict. Clark Atlanta took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on an Andreya Hunter single that scored Johannas Bentley. Benedict responded with two runs to knot the score at two apiece in the fourth frame. CAU scored six runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 8-2 over BC. The Lady Tigers attempted to mount a comeback but, Clark Atlanta held steady to escape with the game-two victory.

GAME 3

In the final game of this weekend's series, Clark Atlanta trounced Benedict, 16-7, to close out the series. The Lady Panthers started the scoring frenzy early, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Benedict scored two runs to get on the board, but CAU tacked on two more to extend the lead to 10-2 in the second inning. The Lady Tigers scored a run before the Lady Panthers scored five unanswered runs to mount a 15-3 lead in the fourth inning. Clark Atlanta held on to secure the sweep after taking down Benedict 16-7 in game three.
