Softball Splits Day One Matchups, Tournament Run Ends with Loss to Tuskegee on Day Two

ALBANY, Ga. | The Clark Atlanta University softball team split a pair of matches on day one of the SIAC Tournament before falling to Tuskegee on day two in an elimination game.

 HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
  • Both teams held each other scoreless in the first inning. 
  • Spring Hill piled on eight runs in the second frame to take an 8-0 lead over Clark Atlanta.
  • Jazmin Scott singled through the right side to bring Rasheedah Hasan in for the score and put CAU on the board, 8-1, in the third frame.
  • Spring Hill tacked on another run in the sixth inning to escape with a 9-1 win over CAU in the opening round.
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
  • Corey Quarterman took the loss on the mound allowing eight runs in two innings pitched.
  • Jayla Hill came in for relief to finish the game's final three innings.
INSIDE THE BOX (GM 1) HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
  • Clark Atlanta struck first in the opening frame when Jazmin Scott scored on a throwing error by the first baseman to put CAU in front, 1-0.
  • Rachel Carroll singled on a bunt to bring Rasheedah Hasan in for the score, 2-0.
  • In the third inning, Miles College got on the board when Myia Westbro stole home to cut the deficit to one (2-1).
  • Scott picked up two RBIs on a fly out to right field to extend the advantage to 4-1 in the fourth frame.
  • Hasan singled to score Sierra Lopez to head into the bottom of the fourth with a 5-1 lead.
  • Miles College added two runs in the fourth bringing themselves within three runs heading into the fifth.
  • Sierra Lopez powered a two-run home run to center field stretching CAU's advantage to 7-2 in the fifth frame.
  • Miles College responded with three runs in the sixth to get within two runs of CAU, 7-5.
  • Clark Atlanta scored the game's final two runs to eliminate Miles College, 9-5, and advance to play Tuskegee in an elimination game.
ON THE MOUND (GM 2)
  • Coreya Quarterman pitched all seven innings striking out three and allowing five runs in the win.
INSIDE THE BOX (GM 2) HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 3)
  • Tuskegee got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead in the first frame. 
  • CAU knotted the score at one apiece in the first inning.
  • The Golden Tigers tacked on two more runs to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning.
  • The Lady Panthers were able to tie the score, 3-3, in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Tuskegee scored seven unanswered runs to finish the game and escape with a 10-3 win over Clark Atlanta.
ON THE MOUND (GM 3)
  • Jayla Hill got the start on the mound striking out one batter in 3.2 innings pitched.
  • Coreya Quarterman finished the game and struck out two in 3.1 innings pitched.
