Panthers Snap Two-Game Skid with a 77-73 Win Over Lane College

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta Panthers (7-2, 1-2 SIAC) landed four players in double figures on the way to a 77-73 victory over the Lane College Dragons on Saturday afternoon inside Epps Gymnasium. Chris Martin and Xavier Griffith led the Panthers in scoring with 16 points each in the win. 

With the win, Clark Atlanta snaps a two-game skid to get their first win in conference play. 

Jalen Williams added 14 points and six rebounds while Andrew Stewart notched 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from downtown.

Lane College struck first in Saturday's matchup after jumping out to a 7-3 lead just four minutes into the contest. The Dragons' lead grew to 17-9 at the 12:47 mark in the first half, but the Panthers responded with a 13-4 run to take the lead (22-21) with seven minutes left to play until halftime. 

Clark Atlanta outscored Lane 18-10 in the final seven minutes to mount a 40-32 lead going into the intermission. 

Chris Martin scored CAU's first points of the second half but an 11-2 scoring run from Lane put the Dragons back in front 43-42 at the 14-minute mark. The lead didn't last long though as Andrew Stewart scored six-straight points for the Panthers to jump back in front 48-47. 

Both teams traded blows until they found themselves knotted at 57-all with just over eight minutes left to play. With 6:43 left to play, Lane College went ahead 66-59 after a 7-2 scoring run. The Panthers battled back though as Andrew Stewart knocked down a crucial three-pointer to give CAU a 71-69 advantage with 2:18 left to play. Jalen Williams sealed the win with a pair of free throws to close out the Dragons 77-73 to extend their home winning streak to five games.

As a team, Clark Atlanta shot 42.9 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from three-point range, and a season-high 88 percent from the charity stripe. The Panthers also outscored the Dragons 30-20 in the paint and scored more points off turnovers (18-16).
