PREVIEW: Volleyball Set for First Round Matchup against Miles College

Lady Panthers open the SIAC Tournament against Miles College

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University women's volleyball team will enter the SIAC Women's Volleyball Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the east division after capturing their first 20-win season since 2012, a year in which they won the tournament. 

Clark Atlanta will open this year's tournament with a matchup against Miles College (No. 2 Seed in West Division) at 4 p.m. at the Tsunami Center in Jonesboro, Ga.
 
The Lady Panthers bested Allen University 3-1 to close out the regular season with a 20-9 record (14-5 SIAC), securing their best record since the 2012 season. 

Scouting the Panthers  
  • Shynique McGee (Atlanta, Ga.) leads the Panthers offensively with 398 kills and a team-high attacking percentage (.269). McGee is 2nd in the SIAC in kills and points (452.5).
  • Nakayla James (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) leads Clark Atlanta in digs with 295 at the libero position.
  • Allanah Drayton-Campbell (Duncanville, Texas) is CAU's top facilitator, setting a team-high 543 assists through 29 matches.
  • Freshman Dahlia Williams (Fairburn, Ga.) leads the SIAC in solo blocks (43) and is ranked 4th in total blocks (89).
  • Setter Sanaa Simmons (Tallahassee, Fla.) is currently 35 assists away from 1000 career assists for CAU. Simmons posted 427 assists this season to add to Clark Atlanta's exceptional setter play.
Scouting Miles College 
  • The Golden Bears are 13-14 overall and 10-9 against SIAC competition. 
  • Miles College finished the regular season with a 3-0 loss to Tuskegee.
Last Meeting

Clark Atlanta took down Miles College 3-1 in their only meeting this season at the SIAC Crossover. The Lady Panthers lead the all-time series 12-2 dating back to 2010. 

On the Record
"We definitely set that goal to reach 20 wins. My team really put in the work to achieve this goal. I'm extremely proud of them for reaching this accomplishment," said head coach Joelle Mafo when asked about the team's success this season. "It's win or go home at this point. Whoever shows up that day will advance, simple as that." said Mafo ahead of the team's first round matchup.

With a win, Clark Atlanta will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of Edward Waters and Lane College on Friday, November 10 at 1 p.m. in Jonesboro, Ga.
