ATLANTA, Ga. – Khadija Smith had a game-high 19 points leading Edwards Waters to a 60-57 win over host Clark Atlanta in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game.
Edward Waters is now 8-8 overall and 4-4 in the conference while the Panthers drop to 7-8 overall and 6-4 in the SIAC.
Faith Bland led the Panthers with 10 points while adding five rebounds. Asha Ross led Clark Atlanta with seven rebounds while Janiah Ellis finished with six boards. Hannah White had a team-high three assists.
Clark Atlanta was 19 of 56 from the floor (33.9 percent) while making 2 of 16 from 3-point range.
Edward Waters led 14-11 after one pushed the lead to 19-11 in the early stages of the second quarter and took a 27-21 lead into the half.
The Panthers used a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game 39-36 with 5:27 left in the third quarter. Clark led by as many as six (46-40) in the quarter, but a 7-1 run to end the quarter tied the game 47-47.
Evans made a pair of free throws with 49 seconds left to give the Panthers a 57-56 lead before Emari Bell's layup with 39 seconds left gave Edward Waters the lead for good 58-57.
The Panthers had a pair of chances to take the lead, but missed both before Jourdan Avery made a pair of free throws with eight seconds left for a 60-57 lead.
Clark would miss a game-tying 3-pointer as time expired.
Clark Atlanta is back in action on Monday at home against Savannah State in an SIAC game at 6:00.
