The Panthers begin the new season after a shortened campaign in 2021 when CAU went 3-8. Much of the latter part of the season was canceled due to Covid-19 precautions.
This season, the Panthers have two Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference players ready to start the new campaign – outfielder
Darrin Brown and shortstop
Justice Page. Brown, a graduate student from Margate, Fla., hit .364 for CAU and had a .955 on-base plus slugging percentage. He also had a 1.000 fielding percentage for the Panthers last season.
Page hit .278 with three runs, three doubles and three RBIs at the plate, while finishing with a .792 fielding percentage, 11 putouts and two double plays in the field. Page also had a 3.37 ERA as a pitcher last season.
Pitcher/first baseman
Lorenzo Peterson also returns for CAU after hitting .333 in 2020. As a catcher he had 39 putouts and caught four runners stealing while also striking out 25 batters in 23.2 innings on the mound that season.
Virginia State is also opening their new season after going 5.8 last year. They last played CAU in 2020 when they swept a three-game series from the Panthers.  VSU is 10-0 versus CAU all time.
The two teams are back on the field on Sunday, Feb. 5 when the they play a doubleheader at noon and approximately 2 p.m.
