Box Score 2 The Clark Atlanta University Panthers picked up their second victory of the season as they split a doubleheader with Miles College Sunday at Bill Evans Field in College Park, Ga.
The Panthers (2-7, 1-1 SIAC) had struggled against Miles (3-5, 1-1 SIAC) over the years, winning just twice in 22 meetings.Â
Saturday in the first game, the Panthers struggled at the plate as they mustered only two hits, both from
Darrin Brown as they fell 10-0. Miles scored two runs in the first, one in both the second and third, two in the fourth and four more over the next two innings to break it open.Â
Kody Long got the win for Miles after throwing six innings of two hit ball. He struck out eight.Â
Jorden Dixon took the loss for CAU as he gave up four hits, five runs (all five earned) over 3 1/3 innings of work. While he walked five, Dixon stuck out three batters. James Bitner led Miles at the plate with two hits including a homer, along with two RBIs and two runs scored.Â
The second game saw Clark Atlanta go up first when Page singled and scored on a
Khalil Manuel single in the bottom of the second to go up 1-0. They added another run in the second when Dorian
Andrews came around to score on a Brown double. Brown then scored on passed ball to put CAU up 3-0 in the third.
Miles sliced into that lead in the top of the fourth when Jeffrey Wright doubled in two runs to pull the Golden Bears to within one at 3-2.
CAU pitching then retired nine of the next ten Miles hitters over the final three innings to shut down the Golden Bears offense. The Panthers also added insurance runs when Page's sacrifice fly in the fifth drove in Brown and a
Jalen Mason sacrifice fly brought in
Eason Bing in the sixth.
Lorenzo Petersen earned a complete game victory for CAU, giving up only two hits and striking out 12 Miles hitters. At the plate, Bing went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Brown finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Wright had one of Miles' two hits and drove in two runs. Max Davenport had the other hit for Miles. Austin Douglas took the loss for Miles. In 2 1/3 innings, Douglas gave up four hits, three runs (one earned) and walked two.
The two teams play the final game of their three-game series today at 2 p.m. at Bill Evans Field.
