Panthers Drop Non-Conference Game at Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –  Jaylon GIbson had game-highs with 25 points and 11 rebounds as Winston-Salem used a 17-2 run which started in the first half and concluded in the second half and beat Clark Atlanta 86-59 in a non-conference game.

Winston-Salem won its seventh straight and improves to 8-1 while Clark Atlanta drops to 1-8 on the season.

Justin Longstreet led Clark Atlanta with 20 points while Jalen Willams added 16 and Gwarren Douglas finished with 12 points for the Panthers. Williams led the team with five rebounds while Kye Jeremiah had a game-high four steals. Longstreet and Williams combined for 27 points in the first half and were held to just nine total points in the second half.

Clark Atlanta shot 41.9 percent from the field (18 of 43) while connecting on 7 of 18 from 3-point range while Winston-Salem was 30 of 52 (57.7percent) from the floor and made 2 of 12 from behind the arc.

The Panthers led 20-19 before Winston Salem ran off eight straight to take a 27-20 lead with 8:49 left in the first half.

The Rams would score 11 straight late in the first half to open up a 48-33 lead and they led 48-35 at the break. Clark Atlanta has held to just one field goal in the final five minutes of the half.

Winston-Salem would cap the 17-2 run with six straight to start the second half to open up a 54-35 lead and never looked back.

The Panthers are back in action on Thursday at Lane College in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game at 8:00.
