Clayton State Beats Panthers

ATLANTA, Ga.-- A late Clark Atlanta rally fell short as the Lady Panthers lost to Clayton State 49-64 Wednesday night in L.S. Epps Gymnasium. 

The Lady Panthers (1-5, 0-1 SIAC) started the lead with Denise Stine shooting for two in the first minute of the game. That point was then answered by the Lakers after a fast break from Jessica Maye finishing with a layup for two. The lady panthers finished the first quarter 10-14 with a lay -up form Corriana Evans with les then two minutes in the quarter. 
 
The first half of the game was a neck in neck battle with Clayton State shooting 37% field goal range and the lady panthers 32%. Corriana Evans led the lady panthers this half with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 1 steal. Audrey McElhaney had four points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal for the Lady Lakers: ending the first half Clayton State 25, Clark Atlanta 22. 
 
Clayton State went up 9 points with in the first two minutes of the half with two three-pointers from Laylah Davis. The lakers then dominated the quarter, maintaining a lead of at least 7 points. With 2 minutes left in the third quarter, Stine had 1 field goal and two free throws closing the gap to a five-point difference: ending the quarter 42-37 Clayton State. 

Clayton State led the entire second half, with CAU hitting just 28% percent of their shots while CSU hit 44% percent of their field goals.  Clayton State outscored CAU 18-8 in in fast break points and Lady Panthers outscored the Lakers 21-12 in points off turnovers.

Janiah Ellis led CAU with 15 points, while also making four assists and one steals along with three rebounds. Denise Stine had 9 points, with Corriana Evans adding 8 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, and Trinity Jones contributing seven points and two rebounds

Clayton State's leading rebounder and scorer Audrey McElhaney paced the Lakers with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Laylah Davis added 11 points.  Swift had five assist and nine points.

The Lady Panthers returns to L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Spring Hill at 2 p.m.
