Panthers Big Fourth Quarter Not Enough in Loss

 

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Corriana Evans had a game-high 22 points and team-high seven rebounds and Clark Atlanta erased a 16-point fourth quarter deficit before falling to Western Georgia 65-61.

Janiah Ellis added 18 points as she connected on 5 of 10 from 3-point range while Denise Stine was also in double figures with 10 points for the Panthers, who drop to 1-2 on the season.

Stine and Trinity Jones led Clark with four assists each.

Clark was 22 of 57 from the floor (38.6 percent) and they connected on 8 of 10 from 3-point range (42.1 percent) while Western Georgia was 25 of 62 (40.3 percent) and hit 5 of 21 from downtown (23.8 percent).

Western Georgia led 13-9 after one quarter and 28-17 at the half. They pushed the lead to 48-36 after three quarters.

The Wolves scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to take a 52-36 lead with 9:32 left.

Western Georgia led 54-42 before the Panthers used a 13-2 run to trim the deficit to 56-55 with 5:04 left.

The Panthers took the lead 61-60 with 1:03 left on a pair of free throws by Evans.

A layup by Peace Okeke with 39 seconds left before three free throws in the final 10 seconds by Stephanie Torres put the game away.

Clark Atlanta is back in action on Tuesday at Tuskegee at 5:30.
