Panthers Win Consolation Game at Chris Paul HBCU Tournament

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Jalen Williams led all scorers with 22 points while adding seven rebounds and six assists leading Clark Atlanta to a 62-54 win over Johnson C. Smith in the consolation game of the Chris Paul HBCU Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Gwarren Douglas had a double-double for the Panthers with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the win while Justin Longstreet added 11 points.

Clark shot 51.1 percent in the victory (23 of 45) and connected on 5 of 16 from 3-point range while Johnson C. Smith was 23 of 64 (35.9 percent) from the floor and hit just 1 of 15 from behind the arc.

The Panthers jumped out to an 11-5 lead with 13:38 left in the first half and led by as many as 12 in the first half and took a 33-23 lead into the half.

Clark took its largest lead of the game 52-38 with 9:51 left in the game.

Johnson C. Smith trailed by 11 with 4:31 left and used an 11-3 run to trim the deficit to 57-54 with 1:03 left.

Longstreet knocked down three of four free throws pushing the lead to 60-54 with 45 seconds remaining. Javonte Sterling made a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to ice the game.

The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday at Palm Beach Atlantic for a 7 p.m. tip.
