Corriana Evans got her second consecutive double-double, but Clark Atlanta fell late to Tuskegee 71-60 Thursday in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
It was the Lady Panthers' (2-10, 2-2 SIAC) fifth consecutive loss, but another game in which they were within striking distance late. The game was also a huge turnaround from the previous matchup with
Tuskegee (7-2, 3-1 SIAC), a game which the Golden Tigers won by 62 points on Nov. 22.
Kaia Barnett's layup with 6:20 left before halftime gave the Lady Panthers a 19-18 lead.  Three missed baskets and two turnovers by CAU helped Tuskegee to go on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to go up 30-19. The lead was 36-23 at halftime as CAU was outscored 28-9 in the first quarter and had 15 turnovers in the first half.
The lead was 15 early in the third quarter when CAU fought back and tied the game at 45-45 after Evans' free throw culminated a big 16-4 Lady Panther run.
The lead was only three points for Tuskegee when
Denise Stine hit one-of-two free throws with 6:28 remaining to close the gap at 56-53. Â But the final six minutes of the game saw CAU outscored by
Tuskegee 15-5 to lead by as many as 15 towards the end.
CAU had 26 turnovers, leading to 27 Tuskegee points, while the Golden Dragons used a deeper bench to outscore CAU 24-8 bench points.
Evans had 17 points and 15 rebounds for CAU, while
Reagan Jackson had 15 points, five rebounds, seven assists and a steal. Barnett finished with eight points and three rebounds, Stine had seven points, seven rebounds and five assists, and
Alexis Mann had seven points and six boards.
Tuskegee was led by JuToreyia Willis' 15 points, ten rebounds, three steals, five assists and two blocks. Arielle McElroy had a game-high 18 points.
The Lady Panthers are back on the floor Saturday afternoon when they host Spring Hill College at 2 p.m.
