Lady Panthers End EWU's Eight-Game Victory Streak, Winning 3-0

Clark Atlanta used a balanced attack to halt the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's longest active winning streak when they defeated Edward Waters 3-0 Sunday in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers (10-7, 6-5 SIAC), who lost at Edward Waters (15-7) earlier this season, ended the Tigers eight-match win streak.  EWU, who had won 12 of their last 13 matches, had not lost since September 25.

But Sunday, the Lady Panthers won the first set 25-17, the second set 25-21 and an even closer third set, 25-23.

Kia Thomas led the Lady Panthers with eight kills, one ace, two blocks and ten digs.  Amirah Bentley had seven kills, two aces, two blocks, eight digs, and 16 assists, while Jalen Dickerson added seven kills. Kiara Finley and Lauryn Terry each had three kills, while Miara Bolden had seven digs, a kill and two assists, and Nina Freeman added nine digs and two aces. Makayla Murphy had three blocks, a dig and two kills, while TiAna Crider had 14 digs for CAU.

Edward Waters was led by Saldy Smith who had 12 kills and 14 digs and Arielly De Souza who had 10 kills and 15 digs.

The Lady Panthers have now won four of their last five matches.  They are off until Tuesday, Oct. 26 when they visit Albany State.  They are next at home on Friday, Nov. 5th when they host Benedict at 6 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
