Clark Atlanta Takes Two of Three From LeMoyne-Owen

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Daniel Gay, Calvin Butler and DeAndre Swift combined for 17 hits and ten runs scored to lead Clark Atlanta in winning two-of-three games at LeMoyne-Owen this past weekend.

Dating back to 2016, the Panthers (4-5) have now won seven of their last eight games against LeMoyne-Owen (1-6, 1-2 SIAC).

The one loss to the Magicians came Saturday as LeMoyne-Owen's Andrew Booker won a pitching duel with CAU's Lorenzo Peterson and D'Artrey Brinson.  Booker struck out 15 hitters and gave up only one run. That run came in the seventh when CAU's Eason Bing's bunt drove in Swift to tie the game at 1-1.  But Justin William's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th drove in Emari Mills for what proved to be the winning run.

Peterson pitched six innings for CAU, giving up just four hits and two runs, but striking out ten.  Brinson tossed the final two innings, striking out one.  Gay had two hits for CAU.
In the first game on Sunday, Clark Atlanta built an early cushion, leading by ten runs by the end of the third inning, to defeat LeMoyne-Owen 11-6.

CAU got four runs in the second and six in the third to open a 10-0 lead that the Magicians couldn't overcome.  Bing scored three times, drove in a run and had hit for CAU, while Butler had a single, a double and two RBIs.  Cedric Holt also singled, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Panthers.

On the mound, Michael Fegins got the win for CAU, striking out eight over eight innings.  Justin Page struck out three in an inning of relief.

Andrew Booker homered and drove in three runs for LeMoyne-Owen.

Ryan Bevel scored on a wild pitch to start a four-run, seventh inning that proved enough for CAU to defeat LeMoyne-Owen 13-11 in the series capper.

CAU had trailed 9-6 after the Magicians' Mills scored on a Williams triple in the fifth inning.  But with two outs in the sixth, Butler scored on an error by the catcher, Gay singled in Fegins, and Swift drove in Gay with a single as CAU tied the game at 9-9.

In the seventh, CAU took the lead when Bevels scored.  Page then scored on a wild pitch, and then Butler scored when Khalil Manuel stole a base.  Later in the inning, Gay then doubled in Manuel as CAU when up 13-9, which proved to be enough for the win.

Butler finished with three hits, two of them doubles, four runs scored and an RBI. Swift had three hits, two RBIs and a run scored, while Gay had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Fegins and Manuel each had two hits, with Manuel scoring twice and Fegins driving in a run and scoring a run.   Manuel also stole two bases.

Bevel got the win on the mound while Brinson earned the save.

The Panthers are back on the diamond on Wednesday, Feb. 26 when they head to Claflin for a single game.
