The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play tonight when they visit Albany State University at 6 p.m.
The Lady Panthers (1-1) are coming off a tough 3-0 loss at the University of West Georgia Tuesday night, but defeated Talladega College in their season-opener on Sept. 6.
Freshman
Lauryn Terry has led CAU with 14 kills, while
Kia Thomas,
Amirah Bentley and
Taylor Prude each have 11.
Ashley Elmore has ten kills, along with nine service aces. Bentley leads the team with 45 assists and has 14 digs,
TiAna Crider has 18 digs, and
Chara Robbins has 15.
Albany State (2-5, 1-0 SIAC) has lost five in a row after winning their first two games of the season against Middle Georgia State and Fort Valley State. Jannai Cheeks has led the Golden Rams so far this season with 30 kills, 29 digs and five service aces, while Arianna lee has had 20 kills for ASU. Jordyn Terrell has 40 digs and 23 kills for ASU.
Last season, the Lady Panthers and Golden Rams split their two regular season meetings, with both winning on the opposing team's home court. The Golden Rams finished first, just ahead of CAU, in the SIAC East Division regular season standings last season and defeated the Lady Panthers 3-0 in the SIAC Tournament.
Next week, the Lady Panthers return to Albany, Ga., to play in the SIAC Crossover. They return to L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Friday, Oct. 11 when they host Paine.
