Lady Panthers Back on the Court at West Georgia Tuesday

After a long, unexpected break after their season-opening win, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers volleyball team is back on the court tonight when they visit the University of West Georgia Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Carrollton, Ga.   Fans can follow the game via the live stats link at http://www.statbroadcast.com/events/statbroadcast.php?t=1&gid=wega&_ga=2.128324239.2054846495.1568733053-1672081777.1568733053.

The Lady Panthers (1-0) defeated a game Talladega College squad 3-1 in their season-opener in L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Sept. 6.  But there has been an unexpected break in game action after the postponement of their game against Claflin University on Sept. 11. A rescheduled date has not been announced.

The Lady Panthers got strong debuts from freshman Lauryn Terry and junior Amirah Bentley in that first game.  Terry, an outside hitter from Tulsa, Ok., had 11 kills, four digs and two assists, while Bentley, a setter from Denver, Colo., had 26 assists, 14 digs, eight kills, and two blocks.

Senior outside hitter Ashley Elmore led the Lady Panthers with 17.5 points on nine aces, four blocks and six kills.  Fellow senior Taylor Prude had six kills, four digs and a block.

CAU takes on a West Georgia squad that is 3-5 this season and was picked by Gulf South Conference coaches to finish seventh in the conference this season.

The Wolves played in the Flagler Classic this past weekend, going 1-3 in the two-day tournament.  Freshman Tierra White has led the Wolves this season with 78 kills and 26 blocks and was named the Gulf South Conference's Freshman of the Week last week.  Emilee Harris and McKenna Wharton both have 59 digs so far this season, while Wharton leads the team in serve percentage.  Setter Madi Fleming has 262 assists for the West Georgia.

After tonight, the Lady Panthers dive into Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play when they visit SIAC East foe Albany State on Thursday, Sept. 19.  A week later, they are back in Albany, Ga., to take part in the SIAC Crossover Sept. 26-28.
