Panthers Split Doubleheader With Morehouse

The Clark Atlanta University baseball team split a doubleheader with Atlanta University Center rival Morehouse College Sunday, winning the first game 9-3 but coming up short in the nightcap, 9-4.

In the first game, Victor Brown pitched a complete game, giving up just five hits and striking out two over seven innings.  At the plate, the Panthers broke open a one-run game early, accounting for six runs in the second to break the game open.

Anthony Nettles, Calvin Butler and Jordan Johnson each had two RBIs for the Panthers, with Butler picking up three singles and Johnson homering in the second.  Jason Howell also singled and tripled and drove in a run.

In Game Two, the Panthers fell behind in the first inning again, this time 2-0.  They countered in the third when Howell, who reached on a throwing error and then stole second, scored on a wild pitch to pull the Panthers to 2-1.

But Morehouse followed with a six-run fourth to put the game away for the Maroon Tigers.
Garrett Alexander doubled for CAU while Jamari Stewart and Deandre Swift added singles for the Panthers.  Howell stole a base as did Swift.  Oatis picked up the loss for CAU on the mound.

CAU returns to the diamond Tuesday when they visit Young Harris College for a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m.  They are back on home, at Bill Evans Field in College Park, Ga., on Friday, March 1 for a single game against Cedarville University.
