CAU Falls At West Georgia; Visits Division I Jacksonville State Sunday

Clark Atlanta started fast, jumping on the University of West Georgia early, but couldn't hold on as CAU fell to the Wolves 90-69 Saturday in Carrollton, Ga.

It was the start of a big weekend for Clark Atlanta (2-6, 1-0 SIAC) who turnaround and step up into Division I play when they visit Jacksonville State University Sunday at 2 p.m. central time.   That game will be televised on ESPN+.

Saturday, the Lady Panthers got out to a quick start on West Georgia (8-1, 1-0 Gulf South Conference) outscoring the nation's fourteenth-best scoring offense 18-17 in the first quarter after running out to a 9-0 lead.  Jalisa Jones had six points during the period while Reyana
Miller had two baskets, one of them a 3-pointer.  The Lady Panthers forced four turnovers in the game's first three-and-a-half minutes.

West Georgia started the second quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 26-20 lead 6:47 left before halftime.  A Miller jumper and Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell's 3-pointer pulled the Lady Panthers back to within one at 26-25 just less than a minute later.   But the Wolves reeled off an 18-4 run to end the half leading 44-29.

But in the second half, West Georgia seized control for good, leading by as many as 26 points to get the win.

Miller finished with 12 points and two rebounds for CAU while Reagan Jackson also had 12 points, along with five rebounds, two assists and a steal.  Autum Morings had 13 rebounds to go with her six points. Mitchell had ten points, eight rebounds, two steals and an assist, while
Jones finished with eight points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist.  Maegan Barkley had nine points and two rebounds.

West Georgia was led by Taylor Brown's 14 points.  Jayda Dooley pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds to go with her ten assists, while Ashley Lee had 16 boards and eight points.

Next up for CAU is Sunday's game at Jacksonville State, a team that is 3-5 so far this season and has defeated the SIAC's Fort Valley State 87-65 on Nov. 24.   Jacksonville State, a member of the Division I Ohio Valley Conference, lost their last two games – to Northern Kentucky and Oakland – during last weekend's Florida International Thanksgiving Tournament.
