Box Score 2 The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers volleyball team continues their run in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Championships in Birmingham, Ala., after loss and a thrilling win Monday.
The Lady Panthers now take on Albany State, the East's top-seeded team at 10 a.m. Central Time in Birmingham. The Lady Panthers defeated Albany State 3-0 on Oct. 4 but fell to ASU 3-2 in Atlanta on Oct. 25
th.
CAU opened the SIAC tournament Monday with a four-set battle with Tuskegee, the third seed from the West. The match was close throughout, with Tuskegee taking the first set 26-24 and the second set 25-23. But in the third, the Lady Panthers  got back in it by holding off the Golden Tigers in another close one, 25-21.  In the final set, Tuskegee used a 7-2 run midway through the set to pull away and win 25-13 and to take the match 3-1.
Kia Thomas led CAU with ten kills, while
Ashley Elmore had nine kills, two aces and two blocks. Â
Sierra Nelson finished with five kills, 25 assists and three aces while
Alexis Gaines had 13 digs, two aces and two assists.Â
Taylor Prude had ten digs for the Lady Panthers while
Brittany Warren-Dancy led CAU with three blocks.
In the second game Monday, the Lady Panthers battled Benedict, the fourth seed, four five tough sets. CAU took the first set 25-20, but Benedict bounced back and took the next set 25-22.  In the third set, Prude's kill ignited a big CAU run where they scored nine of ten points midway through the set to grab an 18-14 lead, and held off Benedict to win the set 25-20.  In the fourth set, Benedict trailed early but took the lead at 3-2 and stayed ahead to take the set 25-19.Â
In the deciding fifth set, it was Clark Atlanta who never trailed, opening a lead as large as ten points, as they defeated Benedict 15-6 to win the match 3-2.
Thomas led CAU with 18 kills and three blocks, and two digs, while Prude finished with 14 kills and 13 digs. Elmore had ten kills and two aces, and Nelson finished with 49 assists, nine digs.Â
Shaya Shally-Jensen had seven kills, 13 digs and two aces, Alexis Elmore had 22 digs and two aces, and
TiAna Crider had 12 digs and two assists.
The winner of today's Albany State-Clark Atlanta match faces the winner of the Tuskegee-Paine match at 4 p.m.
