Romaine Thomas added 16 points and eight rebounds, but Clark Atlanta fell to Barry University 69-57 Saturday in Miami Shores, Fla.
CAU (0-2) fell behind by as many nine points in the first half after both teams initially came out slow scoring-wise. Â
After going into the break leading by seven, Barry (1-0) extended it to nine right after the second half began. But CAU went on a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to take the lead at 38-37 on Henry's 3-pointer with 15:29 remaining.Â
The lead grew to three after two
Romaine Thomas free throws made it 40-37. But a 23-5 run by Barry over the next seven minutes pushed the lead back up to double-figures at 60-45 with just under six minutes remaining. The Panthers cut it to seven points with two minutes left, but Barry held on for the win.
Henry hit three 3-pointers as pat of his 17 points. He also had two assists, while Thomas also had two assists with his 16 points.Â
Austin Donaldson had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists, while
Ian Roach six points, including two 3-pointers.Â
Jalen Mitchell had five points, two rebounds and an assist.
Barry, an NCAA Elite Eight team last season, was led by Daniel Mortensen's 21 points and nine rebounds. Mortensen hit six 3-pointers.
Clark Atlanta is back in action Tuesday when they visit the University of Montevallo and then Saturday on the road in New Orleans at Xavier-Louisiana. The Panthers open the home season on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.
