The Clark Atlanta University volleyball team will try to extend their six-game win streak tonight when they host Albany State at 6 p.m. in L.S. Gymnasium. Admission is free.
The Lady Panthers (9-7, 9-3 SIAC) sit atop the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division, just ahead of Albany State (7-13, 7-4 SIAC). Clark Atlanta is the only team that is undefeated within the division at 3-0 while Albany State is 1-2.
One of those East Division wins for CAU was an Oct. 4
th 3-0 win at Albany State, a match in which all three sets were close including a 31-29 thriller in the first set.
The Lady Panthers rank among the conference's top three in kills, assists and hitting percentage. They are led by sophomore
Kia Thomas, who is third in the SIAC in hitting percentage, junior
Ashley Elmore, who leads the team in kills with 102, and senior
Sierra Nelson, who is second in the SIAC with nine assists per game.
The Golden Rams are coming off a 3-1 victory over Tuskegee Tuesday after being off since Oct. 6, mostly due to the Albany State being shut down from damages because of Hurricane Michael earlier this month. Albany State is led by Jannai Cheeks (175 kills) and Keonna Hobbs (136 kills). Yadira Lyons also has 119 kills for the Golden Rams.
Tonight's game is the second during the Lady Panthers' season-ending, five-game home-stand that continues Monday when Clark Atlanta hosts Paine College.
