FORT VALLEY, Ga. - Clark Atlanta softball picked up the first three wins of the 2016 season with a weekend sweep at SIAC-foe Fort Valley State.

HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY GAME 1:Clark Atlanta score in the first four innings with five in the first and six n the second to open an 11-1 lead.

In the first inning CAU scored five runs on just two hits, aided by one FVSU error. Picking up hits were
Kendall Washington and
Asia Nelson.

The second inning saw the Panthers plate six runs with one hit, a double by Washington, and another error against the Wildcat defense.

Clark Atlanta scored three runs in the third inning an twice in the fourth to cap the game one scoring.

Washington went 2-for-4 while
Asia Nelson added a 2-for-3 game for four of the six team hits.

Ajada Cofield pitched all five innings for her first victory with four strikeouts and allowing six runs - five earned - on eight hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY GAME 2:A ten-run second inning took a one-run game to a lead the Clark Atlanta held for the easy victory.

CAU tallied ten hits in the ten-run second inning - including three errors against Fort Valley State - and left just one runner on base.
Tenicia Winston and
Jessica Vason both had two hits in the inning - Winston has a pair of singles and Vason had two doubles.

Clark Atlanta scored four runs in the fourth inning and twice more in the fifth inning.

Seven Panthers recorded multiple hits in the second game. Vason capped the day with a 5-for-5 performance and three RBI and two runs scored.

Veranae Woods tossed the five-inning complete game with nine hits allowed leading to nine runs - seven earned - while striking out two batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED SUNDAY:Four Panthers added two-hits games with CAU rallying from behind with four runs in the final two innings.

Trailing 3-1, Clark Atlanta scored three times in the sixth inning on three hits with the FVSU defense committing four errors.
Ashley Nelson, Vason, and
Veranae Woods scored in the sixth inning.

CAU added one more run in the seventh inning. Washington led off with her second hit of the game - a single - and later scored on the RBI double from
Veranae Woods.

Cofield retired the home team 1-2-3 to end the game and pick up her second win of the weekend.

UP NEXT:Clark Atlanta returns home on Mar. 6 to face Carson-Newman in a doubleheader and will remain at lady Panthers Field until the middle of March when the team heads to the SIAC Crossover in Jasper, Ala.
