Team Effort Pushes Panthers Past Paine in OT; 115-109

ATLANTA, Ga. - On a night where a pair of seniors were recognized prior to the game, it was a team effort with seven players scoring in double-digits as Clark Atlanta men's basketball defeated Paine College in overtime; 115-109.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game started with a thunderous dunk by one of the seniors - James Arnold - just three seconds into the game.
 
The second good FT from Tim Sanders at 16:13 established the CAU advantage, 8-7. The Panthers would lead until 3:07 remained in the first half when Paine tied the game at 38-38.
 
Paine ended the half on a 10-5 run to lead at the intermission, 48-43.
 
The second half opened with the other senior - Damien Enoch - scoring four points in a 7-2 run to tie the game 50-50.
 
CAU took a brief one-point lead when Derek Harper knocked down a 3-pointer, 53-52, with 16:45 to play in the game. Harper gave the Panthers the lead again at 4:26, as part of a 10-2 run making the score 81-80.
 
While the Panthers would not trail the rest of regulation, the lead remained small enough that Paine scored five points in the final 32 seconds to send the game to overtime; 94-94.
 
It was in overtime where Clark Atlanta outscored the visiting team, 21-15. Overtime opened with a Lawrance Freeman 3-pointer followed by two made FT attempts by Sanders. 
 
The Panthers opened up an 11-point lead, 110-99, after Harper made both from the FT line. In overtime, CAU shot 11-of-12 from the FT line.

THE NUMBERS:
Clark Atlanta shot 42.7 percent (37-for-72) from the floor and added seven made 3-pointers. The Panthers were 40-for-47 on FT attempts.
 
CAU turned 13 Paine turnovers into 16 points. Each team tallied 16 points off turnovers.
 
The Panthers were ahead in second chance points, 19-15, bench scoring, 35-23, and points in the paint, 34-22.
 
Seven players scored in double-digits for Clark Atlanta behind a team-high 23 from Sanders. Also scoring in double digits were Enoch (19), Freeman (19), Arnold (14), Harper (14), David Basil (10), and Darreontae Moore (10).
 
Sanders notched his first double-double of the season with a CAU season-best 10 assists.
 
Freeman (eight), Enoch (seven), and Moore (six) led the rebounding effort for the Panthers.
 
The 115 points established a new season-high in scoring for Clark Atlanta with the number four entry also coming against Paine - 87 points - on Feb. 1 from Augusta, Ga. CAU made 34 field goals in each game versus Paine in 2016.
 
CAU established season-bests in made FT attempts, 40, FT attempts, 47, and team assists, 17.

Clark Atlanta will finish the 2015-2016 season at Benedict and Claflin before heading to Birmingham, Ala. for the SIAC tournament later this month.
