BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The second day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) volleyball championship saw the season end for Clark Atlanta with a five-set loss to Tuskegee. The Panthers defeated LeMoyne-Owen in the opening round before suffering a loss to Kentucky State later in the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED | ROUND ONE:
Clark Atlanta swept through Le-Moyne Owen in straight sets in the opening round of the SIAC Championship, 3-0.

The Panthers dominated the match, winning each set by double-digit points.
Â
CAU won the battle of points, 42-21, kills, 33-15, assists, 27-14, and digs, 32-27.

Tierra Ford and
Sabrina Tucker each had nine kills for the match high with
Sierra Scoggins adding seven.
Â
Kiara Govan opened the championship with 21 assists and six digs to lead the team in each category.
HOW IT HAPPENED | ROUND TWO:
CAU lost to the No. 1 seed from the western side of the conference, Kentucky State, in straight sets to end the opening day of competition.

Clark Atlanta hit .202 for the match while playing close in each of the team stats. The Panthers led in kills, 43-41, assists, 36-34, and digs, 55-54, while scoring just one less point, 50-49.

Taylor Prude and Scoggins (11) led the Panthers in kills while Govan added 32 more assists in the match.

Brittani Brown and
Dariyan Stallings each ended the day by registering 10 digs a piece.
HOW IT HAPPENED | ROUND THREE:
In an elimination match to open the second day of competition from the Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham CrossPlex, Clark Atlanta fell in five-sets to fellow No. 2 seed Tuskegee.Â
Tuskegee won the opening set, 25-22, by outhitting Clark Atlanta, .200-.172. TU led at one point, 16-9, before the Panthers closed within two points, 21-19, following a 4-0 run.

Clark Atlanta picked up back-to-back set victories in the second (25-23) and third (25-22) sets. CAU was outhit in the second set, .194-.000, before posting a match-high .536 hitting percentage in the third set.

The fourth set saw Tuskegee utilize a 6-0 run to take the lead, 15-7, and force a fifth and deciding set by hitting .385 compared to .227 for Clark Atlanta.

In the final set the score was tied, 6-6, prior to a 5-0 run by Tuskegee. Clark Atlanta would score 4-of-5 and trailed 12-10 before TU claimed the set on an attacking error by the Panthers.

Prude had a match-high 20 kills with Scoggins chipping in with 17.

Tyler Williams each had two blocks in the match.

Govan had 43 digs in her final match for Clark Atlanta while
Alexis Williams (14) and Stallings (13) led the Panthers in digs.
THE NUMBERS:
Clark Atlanta outhit the opposition, .216-.195, during the three matches.

The overall tally was close in kills, 126-124, digs, 141-139, in favor of the Panthers. CAU was one assist behind, 110-109, for the Championship.

Scoggins led CAU with 35 kills while Prude (32), Tucker (20), and Ford (17) each reached double digits.
Â
Govan posted 96 assists to go along with 17 digs.

Stallings had a team-high 29 digs while Williams trailed with 22.
UP NEXT
Clark Atlanta ended the season with a .500 record for the second-consecutive season after posting a 14-14 mark in 2015.

Clark Atlanta entered the SIAC Championship as the No. 2 seed from the east and will watch the winner of Albany State (No. 4 seed) and Tuskegee (No. 2 seed) play versus one of the remaining top seeds in Claflin or Kentucky State.
