GAME NOTES: Football versus Albany State

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Panthers are coming off the first win of the 2015 season, a 24-3 road win at Benedict.  The win snaps an 0-6 start and gives head coach Kevin Ramsey his first win as head coach at CAU and his fifth win overall.

Monday saw Jaha McCray named as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.  McCray, a sophomore running back from Jacksonville, Fla., rushed for 122 yards on 14 carries, including an electric 98-yard touchdown.  Adding to his numbers, McCray hauled in three passes for 88 yards - totaling 210 yards on 17 touches.

Six seniors will suit up for the final time in front of the home fans at CAU Panther Stadium  Making their final appearances will be Travius Blair (No. 4), Joshua Tate (No. 7), Jorden Paige (No. 21), Antonio Ford (No. 25), Timothy Rowe (No. 83), and injured kicker Austin Casillas (No. 16).

Seniors from Cheerleading will also be honored, along with the 2015 SIAC Champion Women's Cross Country.

Clark Atlanta Special Teams top the SIAC with an average of 16.6 yards/return on punts.  Panther returners have returned nine punts for 149 yards with a long of 52 yards.

The Panther defense rank fourth in the SIAC allowing just 14.1 First Downs per game to the opposition.  CAU is aided by the second-best SIAC percentage in opposing Third Down percentage (27.1%) while also holding the opponent to 35.7% on Fourth Down - third-best in the Conference.

CAU is holding the ball for the second-highest average in the SIAC, an average of 32:05/game.  

Joshua Tate recorded a pair of interceptions last week at Benedict, one of 14 games in the SIAC this season where a player has two interceptions.  The senior cornerback has picked-off five passes while defending a league-high 13 passes.

Jaha McCray has rushed for 125- and  122-yards in the last two weeks and is one of just three SIAC running backs with multiple 100-yard rushing games.  The SIAC leader is Jarvis Small of Albany State, with four games over the century mark.

Small (676) and McCray (348) are the 1st and 3rd ranked SIAC rushers in 2015.  

Deandre Jackson (105.7 yards/game) ranks third in the SIAC in all-purpose yardage.  Jackson has 161 receiving yards, 149 yards on punt returns, 149 yards on kick returns, and 11 rushing yards - totaling 740 yards.

SERIES SPOTLIGHT: Clark Atlanta will look to snap an 0-13 streak versus the in-state SIAC rival.  The Panthers last defeated the Golden Rams in 2001, 17-14.  CAU has lost 17-of-19 after claiming back-to-back wins in 1981 and 1982.  From 1971-1998 these two programs met in the season opener, with the exception of the 1977 season.  Overall, CAU trails ASU 6-37 in the series.
