Box Score 3 Birmingham, Ala.---Despite a valiant effort, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers feel short in their bid for a second conference championship in three years as they were eliminated from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament tonight.
Clark Atlanta squeezed by No. 4 Miles College in five sets (27-25, 22-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-11) in its first match today before stunning No. 2 Albany State in straight sets (27-25, 25-22, 25-23) to stay alive in the tournament. However, CAU come up short in the final game of the evening with a 3-1 loss to Benedict College (24-26, 25-22, 22-25, 20-25). With the loss, the Lady Panthers captured fourth place in the tournament.
Sophomores Sierra Scoggins and Dariyan Stallings led Clark Atlanta on offense and defense, respectively. Scoggins recorded a team-high 48 kills on 120 attempts with only 11 errors. She also led the team in service aces with nine and eight total blocks while Stallings tallied 77 digs for an average of 5.13 digs per set and six service aces. Three other Lady Panthers finished with double-digit kills for the tournament including Alexandria Baptiste with 37, Sabrina Tucker (29), Alecandria Mattox (24) and Tierra Ford (21). As a team, the Lady Panthers averaged 10.69 kills and 11.31 digs per set. CAU setters Brittani Brown and Tenicia Winston combined for 141 of the team's 155 total assists with Brown averaging 5.27 assists per set.
The Lady Panthers finished the season with an 11-25 record overall and winners of six of their last eight games including post season play.
