Box Score Atlanta, Ga.-- A balanced attack on both sides of the ball lifted Clark Atlanta University over Claflin University in four sets (27-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22) and snapped a six-game losing streak in conference volleyball action at Epps Gymnasium Friday.
Clark Atlanta (5-15, SIAC 4-5) found its rhythm offensively led by junior Cori Smith who finished the game with a team-high 12 kills on 33 attempts. As a team, the Lady Panthers finished with 48 kills on 146 attempts with CAU's Sierra Scoggins and Sabrina Tucker adding 11 each. Claflin's Kiara Johnson topped all players with 16 of the team's 42 total kills. In a closely played first set, there were eight ties and three lead changes with a total of 20 ties throughout the match. Defensively, CAU's Dariyan Stallings picked up a season-high 28 digs while Johnson and Courtney Person added 17 each for Claflin. The CAU Lady Panthers will travel to face Albany State Tuesday, Oct. 7, before hosting Converse College Thursday, Oct. 9, at Epps Gymnasium.Â
