Brown's Grandslam Lifts CAU in Season Finale

Atlanta, Ga.---Clark Atlanta University senior Robert Brown crushed a grand slam homerun over the left field fence to lead the Panthers to a 13-9 victory over conference foe and AUC rival Morehouse College at Bill Evans Field Sunday.

Brown’s homerun blast gave the Panthers an early 5-0 advantage in the third as they held the Maroon Tigers to only one hit through four innings. CAU scored four more runs in the fourth inning capped by Christopher Levy’s two-run single. Morehouse trailed by only two runs, 9-7, after scoring six runs in the top of the fifth with an RBI by Brian Thomas and Andre Southern. Levy answered again with a two-run homerun that extended the Panthers lead to 11-7 after five innings. Sophomore Kelvin Tanner along with Brown drove in two more runs in the sixth while holding on to the lead despite two runs by Morehouse in the top of the seventh inning.

Levy finished with four runs and three RBIs while Brown added two runs and five RBIs on five appearances at the plate. Tanner and Derrick Lott went 3-for-5 from the plate with a double and two singles for the Panthers. Manuel Gasper picked up the win while Tanner recorded his first save on the season.

CAU split the double-header with Morehouse after winning game one 9-8 for a comeback victory while dropping game two 23-15 Saturday.  Clark Atlanta finished the season sixth in the regular season conference standings with a 5-34 overall and 3-18 in the conference.
