Lady Panthers Advance to the SIAC Volleyball Championship Game

Albany, GA--With a convincing 3-1 win over No. 2 Claflin University (25-13, 21-25, 25-13, 25-18) in the final game of Thursday's competition, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers stamped their ticket to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) volleyball championship game to be held Friday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m., in Ablany, GA.

"This is an amazing feeling right now, but we have one more to go to win the championship," said CAU Head Coach Brittany Black.

Offensively, the Lady Panthers were relentless on the attack with three players finishing with double-digits in kills including Ashley Brooks 16, Danica Lawrence 15 and Chanel Trice 14. As a team, CAU smacked down 54 kills in the game on 124 attempts compared to Claflin’s 34 total team kills. Clark Atlanta served up 10 aces led Trice with three while Libero Tyneishah Spears’ play was huge for CAU on the defensive end as she picked up 24 digs. To aid the hitters, setter Kailyn Blackmon recorded 50 sets for the Lady Panthers.

Clark Atlanta had to go through all higher seeds for a stake at the championship title tomorrow including a 3-0 dismantling of the second-seeded Lady Tigers of Stillman College out of the West Division earlier in the day. To open the tournament the Lady Panthers picked off top seed Albany State in straight sets Wednesday.

With the loss, Claflin shifted to the loser’s bracket and will face the winner of Albany State and No. 4 Benedict College at 12 p.m., Friday. In the all East final, the CAU Lady Panthers will match-up against the winner of the 12 p.m., game for the conference championship title.
