Atlanta, GA—Clark Atlanta University swept the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Player of the Week honors for the ninth week of the season announced today.
Sophomore Alexandria Mattox led the way as the Offenisve Player of the Week after smashing 26 kills on 62 attempts with only three errors. She also posted five service aces and 13 digs in CAU's 3-0 finish during the week of 10/22-10/26 with victories over Talladega, Toccoa Falls and Paine College.
For a third week this season juniors Tyneisha Spears (Libero) and Kailyn Blackmon (Setter) were named Defensive and Specialist of the Week, respectively. Spears, who have been a defensive force, ranks among the conference leaders in digs and finished with 41 digs and nine aces while Blackmon recorded every assist (49) for CAU along with 11 digs, three kills and two blocks.
The Lady Panthers (19-17, SIAC 12-4) wrapped up their regular season with a straight set win over Brewton Parker (25-9, 25-16, and 25-11) at HOME Friday. With the conference championship tournament beginning this week Wednesday, Nov. 7- Friday, Nov. 9, CAU is poised for a run at the title. This year's tournament will be hosted by Albany State University and more tournament details will be available upon receiving further information.
