Carl Nichols brings Major League playing experience, nationally respected hitting instruction, and a proven record of player development to the Clark Atlanta baseball program.
A former Major League catcher, Nichols played professionally with the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles organizations. Following his playing career, he became a trusted hitting instructor and mentor to several prominent professional players, including Termarr Johnson, T.J. White, Aaron Hicks, and Dominic Smith.
Nichols also previously served as the head of the MLB Youth Academy in Compton, California, where he helped expand access to elite baseball instruction, mentorship, and developmental opportunities for young athletes from underserved communities.
As a member of Coach Rod White’s staff at Dillard University, Nichols was instrumental in transforming the program’s offensive identity and daily player-development process. He helped establish a more disciplined, competitive, and professional approach to hitting while working directly with players on swing development, offensive preparation, situational execution, and confidence. His influence contributed to Dillard’s 14–6 finish after a 6–21 start in 2024 and the first winning season in program history the following year.
At Clark Atlanta, Nichols leads the Panthers’ hitting development and assists in building an offensive system rooted in preparation, measurable improvement, competitive at-bats, and professional-level instruction.
