Softball Secures Back-to-Back Walkoffs for a Pair of Senior Day Wins

Quarterman and Colbert Pitch Complete Games While Recording Walkoff Singles to Win

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Lady Panthers put on a show in front of a packed Senior Day crowd on Saturday afternoon as they secured back-to-back walk-off wins over Benedict College. Coreya Quarterman pitched a complete game and batted an RBI single to power CAU to a 7-6 win in game one followed by a complete game and a walk-off single from Sarah Colbert in game two, giving CAU a 5-4 victory to close out the day.

GAME ONE: CAU 7, BC 6

Benedict College struck first in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the first frame. Maliyah Ward picked up an RBI on a ground out to bring senior Jazmin Scott home for the Lady Panthers first score of the game, knotting the contest at 1-1 at the bottom of the first.

Both squads remained scoreless for five innings until Benedict plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 advantage over CAU. California native Johannas Bentley responded with a double to center field, scoring Kamesha Galloway and Myia Lambert in the process to tie the score at three-all in the bottom of the sixth frame. Sarah Colbert followed that score up with an RBI single to bring Bentley home and take their first lead of the day (4-3). Freshman Kenedie Matthews belted a triple to center field to bring home another run for the Lady Panthers to push the lead to 5-3 in the sixth.

Andreya Hunter stepped up to the plate to smash a single to right field, bringing Matthews in for another score to add to Clark Atlanta's advantage (6-3) to close out the sixth inning.

The Lady Tigers stacked up three runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase the margin and tie the score at six apiece. Starting pitcher Coreya Quarterman answered the call in the bottom of the seventh as she sent an RBI single through the right side to score Myia Lambert and secure the walk-off win in game one.

Coreya Quarterman pitched all seven innings, striking out nine batters on the way to the win.

GAME TWO: CAU 5, BC 4

The Lady Tigers struck first once again to take a 1-0 lead in the first frame. Johannas Bentley picked up an RBI to bring Maliyah Ward in for a run to knot the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first. Saraha Colbert tacked on another single for Clark Atlanta to score Myia Lambert and take a 2-1 advantage to end the first inning.

Benedict was able to even the score at two apiece, but Jazmin Scott used a sacrifice bunt to plate an Adreya Hunter run, giving CAU a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. The Lady Tigers battled back, scoring two runs to jump in front 4-3 in the top of the fifth. In another comeback effort, Jazmin Scott registered a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Sierra Lopez in for a run, tying the contest a four apiece in the seventh inning.

It was only fitting that senior Sarah Colbert closed out the game with an RBI single to bring Myia Lambert home for her second game-winning run of the day, securing the 5-4 walk-off win for Clark Atlanta.

Sarah Colbert pitched all seven innings with two strikeouts and only four earned runs. Sierra Lopez led the Lady Panthers with a perfect 3-for-3 at bat in the win.
