Lady Panthers Softball Earns Series Win Over Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University softball team (11-25, 4-11 SIAC) took the trip to the coast to take on the Savannah State Tigers this past weekend. The Lady Panthers secured the 2-1 series win after falling in game one but responded with strong performances to win the final two contests. 


GAME ONE: Savannah State 6, Clark Atlanta 4

Savannah State decided to come in and take the lead right in the first inning! Neveah Ford hit a single to the pitcher with a bunt advancing her to third base. This hit brings Milani Dunning in to score the first point of the game. The second score was made by Neveah Ford when La'Taviona Parke hit a double to the right field. Ziahya Griffin grounded out to the third base, had a sacrifice bunt safe, bunt, and an RBI making Haley Carol advance to third base and La'TavionaParke scored the team's third point of the game. With the hit of a wild pitch, Haley Carol was lucky enough to bring it in safely. Rosa Carnesale advanced to second on a passed ball; Kayla Ragins advanced to third on a passed ball. These advances from passed balls led to M Starling making the last score of the first inning which was unearned. This left the Lady Panthers with no score on the scoreboard. 

In the second inning, Savannah State did it again by making the only score in this inning. Haley Carol grounded out to ss, RBI letting Neveah Ford to score. The score is now Savanna State 6- Clark Atlanta 0.

Both teams began to fall back and no scores were put on the board during the third and fourth innings. But the Lady Panthers decided to come back in the fifth inning and score their first point of the game. Maliyah Ward fled out to infield, SAC, RBI; Jazmin Scott advanced to third base and Kenedie Matthews scored the first point. Myia Lambert hit a double to the left field, with 2 RBIs making Kamesha Galloway and Jazmin Scott home to score two more points. 

For the last score of the game, Clark Atlanta was able to score their fourth point of the game. Jazmin Scott reached on a throwing error by 1b and Rasheedah Hasan was able to score, unearned. 


GAME TWO: Clark Atlanta 17, Savannah State 9

The Lady Panthers decided to come into this game with a game plan. Maliyah Ward grounded out to the pitcher, SAC, bunt, and RBI helping Jazmin Scott to score the first point of the game. Myia Lambert homered to the left field, RBI. Shortly after, Kenedie Matthews hit a double down the infield line, 2 RBI. With these plays, Johannas Bently and Sarah Colbert were able to score two points together. Next Rasheedah Hasan hit a single to the shortstop, advanced to second base, RBI, and Kenedie Matthews scored the fifth and last point for The Lady Panthers in the first inning. But the first inning wasn't done yet. La'Taviona Parke grounded out to c, SAC, bunt, RBI; Neveah Ford advanced to third base and Milani Dunning scored.  For the last score of the first inning, Savannah State Neveah Ford stole the home base while Haley Carol stole the second base. 

Even and even! Both teams got to score a point in the second inning. Maliyah Ward grounded out to second base, RBI, motivating Jazmin Scott to run home and score. Next, Milani Dunning from Savannah State singled down the Infield line, RBI and Phaedra Smith scored. 
The Lady Panthers only scored during the third inning. Three points in the third inning must be a sign! Sarah Colbert, Kenedie Matthews, and Rasheedah Hasan all scored a point in the third inning making the score Clark Atlanta 10, Savannah State 3.

Once again, The Lady Panthers scored the only points in the fourth inning. These two points were made by Johannas Bentley and Kenedie Matthews.

At this point of the game, we see The Lady Panthers taking charge but they don't stop in the fifth inning. Johannas Bentley singled to the center field, 2 RBIs; Sarah Colbert advanced to the second; Myia Lambert scored, unearned; Maliyah Ward got to score also. Sierra Lopez walked, RBI; Rasheedah Hasan advanced to second; Johannas Bentley advanced to third and Sarah Colbert scored, unearned. Next, Savannah State decided to come back and get some revenge. Ziahya Griffin singled to the right field, and advanced to second, with 2 RBIs; Haley Carol advanced to third and La'Taviona Parke and Neveah Ford scored. This wasn't all for them in the fifth inning though. Kayla Ragins singled to third base, RBI; Ziahya Griffin advanced to the third and Haley Carol scored. Kylie Rhymer advanced to second base on a wild pitch; Kayla Ragins advanced to third on a wild pitch and Ziahya Griffin got to score on that wild pitch. The last two points from Savannah State in this inning and for them as a game were made by Kayla Ragins and Phaedra Smith making their final score 9.

Maliyah Ward and Rasheedah Hasan were the last two point makers of the game which made The Lady Panthers the winner of game two. Clark Atlanta had a score of 17.

GAME THREE: Clark Atlanta 4, Savannah State 3

The Lady Panthers decided to come back for another win. Johannas Bentley doubled to left center, with 2 RBI. Myia Lambert and Coreya Quarterman.

The game started to slow down but got back active during the fifth inning. Coreya Quarterman homered to left field, 2 RBI, unearned, and Maliyah Ward scored which was unearned. Savannah State decided to put two points on the board during this inning. Milani Dunning grounded out to 3b, RBI, having Phaedra Smith advancing to third and Kylie Rhymer to score. For the last point of the fifth inning, Neveah Ford grounded out to 3b, RBI and Phaedra Smith scored the point.

To finish of the game in the last inning, La'Taviona Parke flew out to cf, SF, RBI, and Neveah Ford scored, unearned. This finalized the game making The Lady Panthers the winner with a score of 4 and Savannah State defeated with a score of 3. A very close game!
