The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers softball team got hits from
Keshonna Terrell,
Laterria Jones, and
Jaelyn Bevel, but fell 6-1 to Tuskegee Thursday on the first day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Championships in Albany, Ga.
The Lady Panthers now play Albany State this morning at 10 a.m. in an elimination bracket game.
Thursday, the Lady Panthers got on the board first against Tuskegee. Terrell was hit by a pitch in the second inning and got to third when Jones singled to right field. Terrell then scored when
Skylar Smith grounded out to second to give CAU a 1-0 lead.
Tuskegee countered with two runs in the bottom of the second, and run in both the fourth and fifth innings, and two in the sixth.
CAU struggled at the plate, getting their only other hit in the fifth when Bevel singled.
Smith pitched six innings for CAU, giving up seven hits and five earned runs. She walked three.
Today, the third-seeded Lady Panthers play top-seeded Albany State who CAU lost three games to a week ago. But CAU head coach
Lawanda Pearson said before the tournament started that her team played competitive and strong innings against ASU and was confident they could play well against them.
