Lady Panthers’ 3-0 Win Over Paine Makes CAU SIAC East Co-Leader

Brittany Warren-Dancy and Ashley Elmore each had six kills as the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers volleyball team defeated Paine College 3-0 on the road Tuesday.

The win puts CAU (5-7, 5-3 SIAC) in a first-place tie with Albany State in the SIAC East Division race.

Paine (4-4, 7-6 SIAC) withstood an early CAU run in the first set after being down 15-8, pulling within two at 15-13.  But the Lady Panthers won six of the next eight points and held off Paine the rest of the way to win the first set, 25-23. 

The second set wasn't as tight as CAU outscored Paine 7-5 midway through the set, taking a 19-10 lead after Shaya Shally-Jensen kill.   The Lady Panthers went on to win the set 25-15.

The Lady Panthers were only up two points in the final stanza until a 3-1 run, led by kills from Shally-Jensen and Kia Thomas, lifted to CAU to a 25-21 third set win and completing the three-set sweep.

Thomas had five kills, two aces, block for CAU while Sierra Nelson finished with 22 assists and two aces. Taylor Prude and Alexis Gaines both had eight digs for CAU, while Prude also had two aces and Gaines had three assists.

Lanica Phillips led Paine with eight kills, five digs, four assists, two blocks and an ace.
