Softball Swept on Road Trip to Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Clark Atlanta softball was swept in three games on the road at Claflin in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action. The losses extend the current losing streak to 11 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:
After two innings of play, Clark Atlanta trailed 9-0 before scoring in the third inning. Sharnitra Woods walked with two outs, advanced on a passed ball, and moved to third on an infield single by Jessica Vason.  Woods scored the unearned run on a wild pitch.
 
Claflin added two in the third and three in the fourth to extend the lead to 14-1.
 
Sharnitra Woods scored the second run of the game when Shalonda Woods walked with the bases loaded. Vason scored on the next at bat with the pinch hit single from Ingrid Sims. Shalonda Woods scored the final run of the game on a passed ball.
 
Vason went 2-for-2 for half of the team hit total.
 
Ajada Cofield (4-13) pitched the complete game - her 13th of the season - yielding 14 runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2:
Clark Atlanta tied the game, 1-1, with a run in the top of the second inning. Briana Aldridge had the RBI single to left centerfield to score Vason who led the inning off with a walk.
 
Claflin responded with three runs in the home fourth before CAU scored in the top of the fifth inning. Vason walked with the bases loaded scoring Shalonda Woods after Woods reached with inning-starting walk.
 
Claflin ended the game with seven unanswered runs.
 
Aldridge and Zhandria Usher tallied the only hits for CAU. Vason went 0-for-0 with three walks.
 
Shalonda Woods (1-6) pitched the complete game - her sixth - with nine hits allowed leading to 11 runs - five earned - and four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 3:
Clark Atlanta suffered the shutout loss, failing to score a run for the seventh time on the season.
 
Ashley Nelson and Vason tallied the lone hits for Clark Atlanta. Vason singled in the second inning with Nelson adding a single in the third inning.

Cofield (4-14) pitched into the second inning before giving way to Shalonda Woods. The duo yielded 10 hits with three strikeouts.

THE NUMBERS:
Game 1: 4 runs, 4 hits, 1 error
Game 2: 2 runs, 2 hits, 6 errors
Game 3: 0 runs, 2 hit, 1 error

Vason extended her hitting streak the three games with hits in bookend games and has now reached base in four consecutive.

UP NEXT:
